What are your hours?

Tuesday-Saturday; 12:00PM-8:00PM, and appointments start at 12:15PM. Occasionally we have limited Friday/Saturday hours due to convention attendance and shop artist availability. All communications are answered during shop hours only.

Do you pierce?

We do not offer piercing services.

What is the shop minimum?

         $100 plus tax.

How do I pay at your shop?

You can pay with credit card (Visa/MasterCard/AmEx/Discover), cash, or a split payment between the two. We do not accept checks.

Is there a minimum age to be tattooed?

You must be 18 years of age or older with valid government-issued ID. At artist’s discretion, one may be 16 years of age or older and must have 1) Government-issued photo ID with birth date, 2) Original birth certificate, 3) Parental/guardian government-issued ID, 4) Your parent/guardian must be present at the session and consult, if applicable.

Do you accept walk-ins or same day appointments?

Walk-ins are accepted but depend on artist availability and your tattoo design. We recommend calling or texting us first to make sure we have availability.

How much is a deposit?

Shop deposits are $25 / $50 / $100 depending on the size, design, and detail of the tattoo. Convention appointment deposits are $50 / $100. Deposits are non-refundable after work begins on piece; no work is started, and no appointments are made without a deposit.

What is your deposit policy?

Full deposit terms are given before payment, but the basic points are that they’re non-refundable, expire 6 months after latest session or consult, are lost if you’re a no-show and/or reschedule within 12 hours of your appointment (except medical emergencies), and/or are an 30 minutes or later to your appointment with no notice. The deposit comes off the last tattoo session.

Do you offer discounts?

We offer a 10% discount for active or retired police, fire, EMT, or military. Proof of service required at consult or session, discount is not transferable to other person/party, and discount can’t be refunded from previous sessions.

I have an appointment today, but I’m sick. What should I do?

Reschedule! If you’re sick, don’t come into the shop. Deposit terms regarding rescheduling apply.

I have a child/children. Can I have them in the shop?

Children are allowed in the shop only for your consult or stopping in with a quick question but are not permitted in the shop for your actual session(s) or for walk-in appointments. Children must be controlled and behaved while in the shop.

Are pets allowed in the shop?

No, except for service dogs with proper/official documentation.

Can I invite people to watch me get tattooed?

Other spectators are allowed, but we prefer if they’re kept to one or two people max. If they are disturbing the artist, they will have to leave. Please note that tattooing can be a long process that spectators may find boring after a while, so we recommend that your guest(s) have separate transportation or something to keep them occupied for your appointment.

Do you require face masks?

As we are still following the state executive order, and as New Jersey defines tattooing as minor surgery, to continue to comply with this rule we require face masks on clients once inside the shop.

Do you do tattoo parties?

Tattoo parties have been suspended effective 6/22/20 due to Coronavirus restrictions. Normally, yes, we do tattoo parties. Parties can only be in-shop. Party options can range from a small group during shop hours to privately renting the shop for a full day. These must be booked in advance and age requirements still apply. Pricing varies between number of people, design/sizing, and if it’s a party during shop hours or private event. Contact us for more information.

How long have you been open?

Our shop opened in May 2015, and the shop owner has been tattooing since 1998.

Pre-Tattoo FAQ

How much does a tattoo cost?

There is no set tattoo cost other than the shop minimum of $100+tax. Prices vary depending on size, design, detail, and placement.

I’ve been thinking about getting a tattoo, but I’ve never been tattooed. What should I be doing as a first timer?

We recommend having a reasonably firm idea for your tattoo. A consult can be set up with an artist who can work with you to fine tune the details, tweak the design if something can’t be tattooed, or help narrow it down if you have a couple ideas. We can’t really help you if you don’t know what you want or don’t provide us with adequate information, nor will we rush you into a tattoo you don’t necessarily want. When you decide on an idea, check out portfolios of our different tattoo artists to see who best fits the style you want your piece to be.

Can I send you imagery to get an estimate?

Yes, but we need some information from you when sending the photo; where are you placing it on your body, sizing (in inches), and to send us a clear, well-lit image with no shadows. We need your sizing because we can't accurately determine sizing from a photo. If you're sending a picture of a tattoo on someone else, keep in mind that that tattoo was custom made for that person to their sizing, and some elements of that tattoo (or the entire tattoo) may not be possible to tattoo on you. If you want a tattoo of lettering or handwriting, there is a minimum text size required depending on the font or the handwriting--if the writing is tattooed too small, the text will bleed together and become illegible. Imagery can be texted to our shop number at 732-503-8469 or emailed to radiantenergytattoo@gmail.com.

Is there a cost for a consult? Do they have to be done in-shop?

Consults are free, and at the end a deposit will be taken if you’re ready to set up an appointment. It’s preferable to have the consult in-shop, but for clients that have a significant travel distance we may be able to consult over email or Zoom, depending on piece.

Can I choose an artist?

Absolutely. Please specify an artist when you set up your appointment. If you don’t give a preference your piece will be given to the next available artist based on your availability/time frame. If you were referred to an artist, let us know.

Is tattooing safe?

We use disposable supplies for needles, inks, gloves, and other associated supplies. While our autoclave is not actively used since we’re a fully disposable shop, it is still tested monthly for a spore test as required by health code. Surfaces are barrier-wrapped and other exposed surfaces are disinfected after each tattoo.  Furthermore, all shop artists have taken and passed bloodborne pathogen training and adhere to New Jersey and Ocean County health codes.

I have (medical condition) and/or I have an allergy to _____, can I still be tattooed?

This would depend on the condition/allergy; let us know prior to your consult or setting up your appointment. If you are diabetic, we will not tattoo you below your waist.

I’m pregnant. Can I be tattooed?

         No.

How long does a tattoo take?

Like the price, this varies on your design and your body. Your artist will give you a time and price estimate, however this is just for tattooing time and doesn't take into account set up, stenciling (if applicable), a short break each hour, and breaking down. A session can be 20-30 minutes (including setup/breakdown) or up to a full day of 5-6 hours of tattooing. Bring snacks/meals/drinks if you have a session longer than 2-3 hours or so. We have a microwave and refrigerator available for client use.

Do you tattoo hands/fingers/faces/lips/feet, or private areas?

For those individual areas, yes, however they are not included in our standard touch-up policy. If a touch-up is required, it’s billed at the standard shop rate. For private areas, yes, however they are billed at a higher shop rate depending on placement and specific part, and touch-ups are billed at the shop rate. Note: The lower stomach area is not considered a private area.

I have two or more pieces I’d like to tattoo. Is it better to book them together or separately?

If they’re on separate areas of your body, you can physically handle multiple tattoos, and they can both be done during our shop hours, it’s more cost-effective to do both in one session.

When should I arrive for my appointment?

Simply arrive at your appointment time. We will contact you ahead of time if we can get you in earlier or if we have to move up your appointment due to a session running unexpectedly long.

I want to get tattooed but I'm going on vacation and want to be tattooed prior to my trip. What should I do?

Definitely postpone the tattoo until you return, especially if you're going to be in the sun, any bodies of water (or cruises), or airports. Tattoos must be kept out of direct sunlight during the healing process, and bodies of water and airports all have bacteria and germs that can be detrimental to your healing process.  Enjoy your trip without the worry of having to follow the healing aftercare or risking damage to the tattoo and you can be tattooed when you return.

Tattoo FAQ

Does tattooing hurt?

While every person’s body is different, on average we find that when the needle hits the skin, it’s followed by ‘that’s it?’. During the tattoo, if there is any pain, we offer optional numbing products to alleviate soreness during the tattoo process. With that said, there could be a higher chance of pain on areas where your skin has more sensitivity than other parts of the body but choose where you want the tattoo based on where you want it, not on how much you think it might hurt.

I’ve had alcohol and/or drugs prior to my appointment today. Can I be tattooed?

No. If you come to your appointment under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs you will be rescheduled and lose your deposit. You can drink alcohol after your tattoo, but we recommend waiting a few hours as alcohol can still affect the healing process.

Do people pass out?

Rarely, almost never. If it happens it’s likely due to lack of eating and drinking fluids throughout a longer session. Bring snacks/meals/drinks if you have a session longer than 2-3 hours or so. We have a microwave and refrigerator available for client use.

Post Tattoo FAQ

How long do I need to wait between sessions?

Your previous session must be fully healed before another session can take place. Linework typically heals within 1-2 weeks, anything else typically heals within 3-4 weeks. Tattooing on unhealed skin can cause scar tissue and/or permanent discoloration or other skin issues. If you’re not healed, no tattooing will occur until healing has completed.

What is your touch-up policy?

We offer one free touch up within six months of your appointment only if our aftercare policy was followed. You can reschedule the touch-up appointment twice without penalty; if you reschedule three or more times, a $50/hr touch-up fee will apply.

What is your aftercare policy?

You can view it here: http://myradiantenergy.net/aftercare
